Frequently Asked Questions
Hey, It's Shani
I want to start with two disclaimers:
1. The written below contains both facts and my personal opinion - I can't promise which is which and I do not claim to be an authority on this subject or, in a matter of fact, on any subject at all.
2. Please do not mind my English, I prefer this page to be authentic and personal rather than perfectly written.
Why Do You Tattoo?
I feel like I found the perfect way to combine my love for art and my love for people. I could never be the artist that paints alone at the studio everyday. The ability to collaborate with different people every time and to have them trusting me with this intimate and important process means everything.
Do you design custom tattoos?
We do it together actually. When we meet, we immediately start our creative process together in a search for the perfect, most unique and personalized design. You would be in charge of the idea and the story, and I will take care of the visual aspect.
Usually we create more than one sketch and then the best thing happens: I just sit and wait while you need to choose between a few great options.
How much do you charge for a tattoo?
I take flat rates but it depends on the city where I tattoo. In New York I would charge around 1800 dollars, in Berlin - around 1100 euros and in Tel Aviv , around 3400 Shekels. The price can definitely change if the project is super complicated or super simple, and sure, it’s very easy to give discounts to returning clients.
Would you tattoo other things than your human-animals?
Lately I enjoy tattooing illustration-like-drawings of just animals - no human bodies. Also , I realized that my connection with my clients is bigger than my connection with my human-animals. After we earn each other's trust, it will be easier to create something new together - even if it’s way out of my comfort zone.
Do you offer touch-ups?
I love saying “lifetime warranty”. Come back whenever you want, I want the tattoos to look good when they walk around the world, and I want my clients to be happy.
Do you offer cover-up tattoos?
No, My style definitely can not tattoo another piece. I recommend searching for blackwork or abstract artists.
How should I prepare for my tattoo session?
Make yourself comfortable:
-
Get a good rest the night before.
-
Eat a good meal before your appointment.
-
Wear something comfortable.
Should I prepare entertainment for the tattoo session?
You of course can! but also, I am always up to mutual music listening sessions, or even watching a well known sitcom together (well, you’ll watch, I just listen).
Either way, it’s up to you.
How do I book an appointment?
Easy, Send me an Email to info@shaninizan.com
How long does the tattoo session take?
The designing processes can take between 20 minutes to 3 hours - very hard to estimate. As for the actual tattooing part - standard size and design of mine usually takes 3-4 hours.
What do you recommend for the aftercare?
I am always having a hard time giving exact instructions since I got to realize that every skin acts differently. What I can say is that the tattoo definitely needs to stay sterilized clean and avoid direct sunlight and soaking in water for at least two weeks.
Some people tend to put a lot of aftercare cream thinking it would make the tattoo heal faster - but it’s exactly the opposite. The cream is needed just to mustarize only if the skin is dry. You should use the minimum amount and to soak it well in the skin. Don’t forget to wash your hands beforehand.
Does getting a tattoo hurt?
Pain levels vary depending on the location of the tattoo and individual pain tolerance. Women usually deal better with the pain. Either way, my technique is pretty gentle, and most of my clients find the experience manageable.
Can I bring a friend with me to my appointment?
In Berlin and Tel Aviv - yes, one friend is welcome to accompany you through the whole session. In New York - they can come and support only through the designing process.
